Technical Leadership

Over 20 years of experience in leading design and architecture efforts, and project implementations. Technical lead for multiple multi-million Euro projects that successfully went live, like:

  • Electronic Document Management at Bundesagentur für Arbeit (German Federal Employment Agency)
  • Electronic Patient Record for large health insurance (Die Techniker)
  • German national e-Prescription server

Major architecture, as well as design for performance and reliability work. Supporting projects like eAkte or worldAccount in the full lifecycle, learning from operations and integrating lessons learned back into the system (e.g. Smarter Monitoring). The teams led ranged up to 60 people for a full project, or 50 designers and developers in a banking project of a total of 200.

Best Practices

High efficiency in project implementations. Co-led the IBM Worldwide Performance and Availability Community of Practice and the PREVAIL conferences to develop best practices for NFRs. Developed a cloud-native distributed transaction protocol. Proposed by IBM to give a lecture on “Advanced Software Engineering” at the Mannheim Cooperative state university (DHBW), giving the lecture in 2022. Regularly reviewed other projects within IBM, and some client’s large and complex applications, and helped improve them.

Communication and Ecosystems

Lead architect for several projects in the German national electronic health card ecosystem and telematics infrastructure: VSDM Intermediary, Medical Communication (KOM/LE, KIM), ePA, and e-prescription. Various regular points of contact with the specification provider gematik, with auditors who certify the projects, as well as with implementation partners, and of course the customers. Presentation of demos during trade fairs (CeBIT, Medica). Open communication. Experienced speaker at conferences. Published multiple articles around microservices and performance optimization.
